Barbara Demick reviews Elizabeth Williamson’s book, which she calls “meticulously reported,” and says Lenny Pozner comes through as its central figure: the father of the youngest victim, who first tried to reason with hoaxers by releasing Noah’s records. When that failed, Pozner and a network of volunteers turned to pressing Facebook, YouTube and Google to take down the worst content, a campaign the review links to Infowars being removed from major platforms in 2018. Demick also traces how Sandy Hook denial led to later conspiracy movements such as Pizzagate.
